UX/UI DESIGNER | PRODUCT DESIGNER

AILEEN (AJ) SEMIRA JOCSON

I'm AJ, and I'm passionate about all things design! With a strong background in UX/UI and product design, I've had the privilege of working in some exciting industries, including AR/XR entertainment, video games, consumer electronics, and digital products. My journey in design has allowed me to explore both physical and digital user experiences, all while honing my skills in user research and interaction design.

 

Currently I am an UI/UX Designer at Mindshow, a real-time CG tech company that creates tools and pipelines to make high quality animated content. I’ve been given an amazing opportunity to lead the designs for user friendly experiences and innovate interface designs for their software platform. My journey at Mindshow consists of developing a design system, creating user flows, concepts, low to high fidelity wireframes, and prototypes. It has been an amazing collaborative effort with cross functional teams working diligently to integrate new designs, while prioritizing intuitive navigation and user engagement.

 

I also had the great privilege of working with some other fantastic teams. My experiences as a UX/UI Designer and Product Designer at Magnopus, Deck Nine Games, Sphero, and Viget Labs, LLC have all contributed to my growth in this dynamic field.

 

At Magnopus, I lead designs for “Expo Xplorer,” a multiuser app experience for the World Expo held in Dubai. It aimed to bridge the gap between on-site and off-site experiences, connecting people all over the world and leveraging AR elements. I was also thrilled to contribute to their “OKO” platform, an immersive cross-device platform that blurs the lines between physical and digital worlds. This cutting-edge product even made its way onto TIME’s list of “Best Inventions of 2022.”

 

During my time at Deck Nine Games, I served as a UI/UX Designer, working closely with a diverse group of team members. We collaborated on creating various workflows, wireframes, mock-ups, and design documents, and I had the pleasure of implementing final designs using Unreal Engine to craft user-friendly and immersive experiences for games like "Life is Strange True Colors" and its DLC, "Wavelengths."

 

At Sphero, I initially joined as a UX Designer and transitioned into a Product Designer role. Here, I worked on a range of products, designing play experiences and user journeys, along with developing workflows and wireframes. I even led the design efforts for their "Star Wars Droids" line and companion app.

 

I'm more than just a designer; I'm a passionate design professional who's always eager to learn, grow, and mentor others in this field.

And for those wondering about the name "Alien Samurai," it all started when a teacher mispronounced my name, "Aileen Semira," as "Alien Samurai." The name stuck, and I decided to embrace it. I founded Alien Samurai Designs, and the rest, as they say, is history. Plus, it makes for a pretty cool gamer tag, if you ask me!

MINDSHOW

UI/UX Designer

Designed and shipped AR/XR related products, while working closely with Product Designers, Engineers, Product Management, and QA. Designed user flows, wireframes, and UI Assets, as well as identified and communicated risks and opportunities to the team and stakeholders.

DECK NINE GAMES

UI/UX Designer
Created project specific UI workflows, mock-ups, wireframes, and design documentations. Implemented UI designs and assisted in bug fixes using Unreal Engine. Created test plans, facilitated user testing, and presented collected data to stakeholders. Also worked collaboratively with various teams on concepts and ideations, and owned various features.

Worked on various high quality digital products and websites. Created test plans and facilitated user tests. Collaborated with peers and presented deliverables to clients within project timeline.

Worked on Star Wars Droids: R2-D2, BB-9E, R2-Q5 and Star Wars Droids App by Sphero. Research into creating authentic Droids true to the movies. Also designed play experience.

User research through play testing Force Band product and Force Band app by Sphero. Also created user flows and wireframes for IFTTT activity.
